The arts I teach
Jeet Kune Do
JKD is Bruce Lee’s fighting concepts, and Jun Fan Gung Fu is his original material. It is mixed martial arts for self defense. Trained with shoes on, which are used as a weapon, and leverages targets such as groin, eyes, and throat. This is not a sport.
Muay Thai
Kickboxing sport from Thailand. Trained barefoot. Heavy footed art using kicks, knees, elbows, and punches. It focuses on power. It toughens you up and makes you sweat.
Jiu-Jitsu
Jiu-Jitsu is a Japanese grappling art revived and popularized by Brazil. It is a non-striking sport that teaches you how to dominate on the ground. It is great at learning to flow on the ground.
Savate
Boxe Française Savate is a kickboxing sport from France. Trained with shoes on. Quick light footed art that teaches you how to relate to an opponent, leverage your reach, and master speed and fluidity. It helps you build stamina through constant light movement.
Silat & Kali
Silat is an art from Indonesia and Malaysia sometimes referred to as dirty boxing. It focuses on striking, grappling, and join locks/breaks. It is great at teaching you how to flow between positions and ranges.
Kali, also known as Eskrima or Arnis, is an art that focuses on weapons, such as sticks and knives. It is a good art to learn to defend against a knife.
Krav Maga & KAPAP
Street self-defense systems from Israel designed to be taught quickly to anybody to escape threats and attacks commonly seen on the street. These systems take into account the environment, such as being pinned against a wall.
About me
My name is Asaf Ronen. I trained for a very long time under top instructors. My spectrum of experience, as I like to categorize it, ranges from martial arts as a sport (Thai Boxing, French Savate, Jiu-Jitsu), to street self-defense (Krav Maga, KAPAP, Jeet Kune Do/Jun Fan), to war time combat (Silat, Kali). All of these styles are extremely practical.
I love to coach and make training fun. I nurture the potential in every student. I make my students sweat and become a better version of themselves.
I tell my students “Good job. Do you want to make it better?”
My primary teachers were Rick Tucci, Mike Lee, Max Wang, Guro Dan Inosanto, Ajarn Chai Sirisute, Amit Himelstein, Nicolas Saignac, and Salem Assli.
The material I coach is of high quality, and my coaching is especially good. I care about your growth. I have a way of connecting with people. I am hyper observant of where you’re at, and tailor my coaching to what you need most. I help you learn and retain techniques. I help you develop the attributes and mindset to excel.
I believe my students develop their skills faster than in most martial arts schools.
I found that training martial arts helped me in many other areas of my life. It improved my confidence, awareness, reflexes, ability to deal with hardships, and capacity to be calm and focused under stress. It also created a community around me.
My knowledge is broad and deep. I have my strengths and weaknesses. I believe no matter how much experience we have, there is always more to learn and refine.
In my professional life I coach big corporations on how to become innovative, customer focused, and how to build powerful healthy teams built on trust and inspiration as opposed to fear. I have a masters degree and an undergraduate degree from Carnegie Mellon University.
